Jonathan S. Marvin's Lecture on Sensors for Tracking Neurotransmitter Release in Living Animals
September 15th – Jonathan S. Marvin, Senior Scientist at the Janelia Research Campus, HHMI, gave a seminar entitled “Sensors for Tracking Neurotransmitter Release in Living Animals” at the CIMR Innovation Hub, North Basic Research Building. He introduced the development and application of genetically encoded fluorescent biosensors for monitoring neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, and metabolites with high spatial and temporal resolution in living systems. In particular, he highlighted recent work on iGlucoSnFR2, a second-generation fluorescent glucose sensor capable of measuring intracellular and extracellular glucose dynamics in vivo. He further discussed how membrane-localized iGlucoSnFR2 can be calibrated to quantify changes in extracellular glucose concentration, providing a powerful approach for investigating glucose dynamics at cellular resolution in living animals.
